Bill Pitcher is the head of culinary services at Sacandaga Bible Conference & Retreat Center, an evangelical Christian camp in New York’s Adirondack mountains. He began his position in September 2009 after nearly two decades as a volunteer and seasonal worker at Christian camps in New York, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire.
He also is a journalist, having spent nearly 10 years at The Record in Bergen County, N.J., the last four as food editor. Called to be closer to family and camp, he most recently was city editor at his hometown newspaper, where he got his first byline in 1992.
He is married to Julie, who is the camp’s administrative assistant. They have a 14-year-old daughter, Erika, and a bunny, Reeses. They live at the camp in Broadalbin, N.Y.
